Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Chemistry Dictionary (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you visit chemistry-dictionary.com (the “Site”). We keep data collection to a minimum: you do not need an account, and we do not ask you for personal information to read the dictionary.

Information we collect

  • Usage data. Like most websites, our servers and service providers automatically receive standard technical information such as your browser type, device, and referring page. We use this only to keep the Site working and secure.
  • Anonymous view counts. We count how many times each term page is viewed so we can show popular terms. These counts are aggregate and are not tied to your identity. Your browser stores a small value locally (see “Local storage” below) so that repeat visits are not counted twice.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not require or knowingly collect names, email addresses, or payment details from visitors browsing the dictionary.

Cookies and local storage

A cookie is a small file a website can store on your device. We ourselves use minimal cookies, but our advertising partner (see below) may set cookies. Your browser lets you refuse or delete cookies through its settings.

We also use your browser's local storage to remember which term pages you have already viewed, so our view counter does not count the same visit repeatedly. This value stays on your device and is not personal information.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements, which helps keep the Site running. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

  • Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads to you.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to the Site and other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices, or, in the EU, at youronlinechoices.eu.

For more information, see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site (for example, which pages are most popular) so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies to collect standard internet log information and aggregated visitor-behavior data in a form that does not personally identify you. You can opt out across all sites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Third-party links

The Site may link to other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.

Children's privacy

Chemistry Dictionary is an educational reference suitable for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR or the California CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, or to opt out of certain advertising. Because we do not build profiles of visitors, most of these rights are satisfied simply by controlling cookies and advertising through the links above. To make a request or ask a question, contact us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the Site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
