Acetic acid is the acid that gives vinegar its sour taste. Household vinegar is only about 5 percent acetic acid, and the rest is mostly water. Glacial acetic acid has almost all of that water removed.
The name comes from its freezing point of 16.6 degrees Celsius, which is 61.9 degrees Fahrenheit. That is just below normal room temperature. In a cold room, a bottle of it can freeze solid into crystals that look like ice.
Students often assume that concentrated means strong. In chemistry those are two different ideas. Strength describes how completely an acid breaks apart in water.
